the stone and wood house is located on a beautiful acreage property on the sunshine coast.  the majority of the site is occupied by an expansive man made lake.  the rest of the property is made up of formal subtropical gardens and native eucalyptus forest.

the property is located in an environmental conservation area.  an existing residence on the site was retained as per town planning requirements.  the owners brief stipulated a single level courtyard type house with traditional roof forms and use of natural materials such as stone and timber.  the owners have an appreciation for formal gardens and the house has been configured so that rooms have views over the gardens and to the lake beyond.  the new wing of the house is a north facing u shaped plan around a garden courtyard and long reflection pool.  the existing residence has been converted into a games room and sweeping terrace overlooking an emerald green pool and gardens.

the traditional roof forms provide high vaulted ceilings internally, that are highlighted by skylights and concealed lighting.  the apparent simplicity of the design allows the finely crafted natural materials such as timber and stone to become the focal point.  these building elements frame and compliment the beautiful undulating subtropical gardens.   the house and property have an alluring peace and tranquility that makes it hard to leave.
